The October 18th GOP primary debate on CNN was the second-highest rated debate this cycle, and the best for the cable news channel so far. The debate drew nearly two million more viewers than the CNN/Tea Party debate the channel hosted last month as well as 500,000 more adults 25-54. The Fox News/Google debate last month drew approximately 500,000 more total viewers than last night’s debate, though it only had 50,000 more viewers in the demo.
There have now been 8 debates for the 2012 GOP race and ratings continue to fly high. Fox News will host the next two debates, scheduled for December 15th in Sioux City, Iowa and January 16th from South Carolina.
“We are pleased to host these additional Republican presidential debates and provide viewers an opportunity to gain more insight into the nominees at such critical junctures in the 2012 election season,” said Michael Clemente, SVP of News.
